5th Grade: 

This week, students are to practice making inferences with primary sources. Students will do so while analyzing the Declaration of Independence, Constitution and Articles of Confederation. Students will be able to compare and contrast the two documents and recognize their roles in the founding of our nation. All work will be completed in class so homework is not anticipated. Each student needs to come to class prepared with their social studies binders, charged Chromebook, and something to write with. 

 

6th Grade:

This week, students will learn about the American Revolution, the causes/aftermath, as well as the major battles, events, and people. By the end of this unit, students will be able to recall the role of the Revolutionary War in the genesis of the United States. All work will be completed in class so homework is not anticipated. Each student needs to come to class prepared with their social studies binders, charged Chromebook, and something to write with. 

 

7th Grade:

This week, students are learning about the culture, technology, government, and religion of the Zhou – Qin Dynasties of ancient China. Students will be able to compare and contrast the two civilizations while recalling how one built off of the progress of the other. All work will be completed in class so homework is not anticipated. Each student needs to come to class prepared with their social studies binders, charged Chromebook, and something to write with. 

 

8th Grade: 

This week, we will be learning about the role coal plays in the economy and culture of West Virginia. Students will make inferences from primary sources about the importance coal had for developing Appalachia.Topics will include the Battle of Blair Mountain, Company Towns, and life in Coalwood WV during the industrial revolution. All work will be completed in class so homework is not anticipated. Each student needs to come to class prepared with their social studies binders, charged Chromebook, and something to write with. 

 

Religion:

This week, students will be learning more in depth about St. Juan Diego and Our Lady of Guadalipe in keeping with the celebration of her feast day on December 12th, 2023. While doing this, we will learn about Advent and Christmas traditions in other cultures around the world. All work will be completed in class so homework is not anticipated. Each student needs to come to class prepared with their social studies binders, charged Chromebook, and something to write with.
