5th Grade: This week, students will learn about the early world explorers such as the Vikings, Christopher Columbus, and the Spanish Conquistadors. We will read and take notes from our textbook, analyze primary sources, and learn new academic vocabulary words. This lesson should take a whole week. Students are expected to come to class prepared with their Chromebooks, binders, and something to write with. 

 

6th Grade: This week, students will learn about Spanish colonization and New Spain and the first French, Dutch, and English colonies. We will read and take notes on our textbook including important events and vocabulary, as well as engage with interactive maps and charts to learn more deeply about this topic. All work will be completed in class so homework is not anticipated. All students are expected to come to class prepared with their Chromebooks, binders, and something to write with. 

 

7th Grade: This week, students will be learning about Greek philosophers and artists and their impact on the world. We will also dive deeper into the recreational activities of Greece and what we can learn from their culture based on that. Students will learn about Plato, Socrates, the Olympics, etc. All work will be done in class so homework is not anticipated. All students are to come to class prepared with their Chromebooks, binders, and something to write with. 

 

8th Grade: This week, students are learning about the cultures behind the first settlers of western Virginia. This includes how they built homes, their food and clothing, recreation, and evolution of language. All work is to be completed in class so homework is not anticipated. All students are to come to class prepared with something to write with as well as their Chromebooks and binders. 

 

Religion: 

This week, in anticipation of our Blessing of the Pets/Huggables masses, students will be learning about the life of St. Francis of Assisi. Students will do this by watching a short film about St. Francis and then compiling information about his life. We will discuss his role and impact in the Church and why his example is revered today.
