5th Grade Social Studies

 

This week, students will learn about the relationships between the indigenous peoples of America and the pilgrims. These discussions will take us from the first permanent European settlers on the New World up through the first Thanksgiving and into the revolutionary era. All work will be completed in class so homework is not anticipated. All students are expected to come to class prepared with a charged Chromebook, social studies binder and something to write with. 

 

6th Grade Social Studies

7th Grade Social Studies

 

This week, students will be introduced to Ancient China. This unit will begin with a map coloring/labeling activity to get used to the geographical features of the region we will be studying. After the map activity, we will begin our Ancient China Timeline and culture activity. All work will be completed in class so homework is not anticipated. All students are expected to come to class prepared with a charged Chromebook, social studies binder and something to write with. 

 

8th Grade Social Studies

 

This week, students are taking a break from our textbooks to learn about the many cryptids and tall tales we have here in Appalachia. Students are going to research one of their Appalachian cryptids (Mothman, Flatwoods Monster, Snallygaster, Snarly Yow, Batboy, etc). And turn them into a wanted poster that demonstrates their understanding of this piece of WV folklore. All work will be completed in class so homework is not anticipated. All students are expected to come to class prepared with a charged Chromebook, social studies binder and something to write with. 

 

Religion

 

This week, students are learning about the topics of morality, scandal, mortal sin, venial sin, and the afterlife. Students will be undergoing multiple thought exercises and hypothetical scenarios to determine moral/immoral behavior in light of Catholic Social Teaching. All students are expected to come to class prepared with their charged Chromebook, religion binder, and something to write with.
