9/5/23 Weekly Update

5th Grade Social Studies

This week, students are continuing their research on their chosen state and using the 5 themes of geography to describe the place they are researching. Research on their state/city should be completed by Thursday at the end of class, and then students will move onto the creative part of the assignment, where they will make a poster encouraging tourists to come visit their area. All work will be completed in class so homework is not anticipated. All students are expected to come to class prepared with their social studies binders, something to write with, and a Chromebook.

6th Grade Social Studies

This week in social studies, 6th graders are continuing with their projects we worked on last week. As we only have two days of class-time together, I plan on helping them with their research and beginning their next phase of the project – creating a travel poster, a Google Slides, or a travel brochure. We will get as much done as we possibly can and plan to go full steam ahead with the project next week. All students are expected to come to class prepared with their social studies binders, chromebooks, and something to write with.

7th Grade Social Studies

This week, students will begin learning about Ancient Greece. Students will label and color a map of Ancient Greece, as well as beginning our notes on Ancient Greece. Students will learn the religion, cultures, geography, government style, mythology, resources, etc. This will be an overview of the topic before we move into greater detail throughout the unit. All work will be completed in class so homework is not anticipated. All students are expected to come to class prepared with their social studies binder, chromebooks, and something to write with.

8th Grade Social Studies

This week, students will finish their travel itinerary for a trip around West Virginia. Students have selected and researched their 5 attractions around the state, and now they are finding the distances between them and planning the most efficient order to visit the attractions in. As we only have two days together this week, we will get as far as we possibly can. All students are expected to come to class prepared with their social studies binders, chromebooks, and something to write with.

Religion (ALL GRADES)

This week, all students are beginning the second week of learning about the Mass. What it means for Catholics, why we sit when we sit, why we stand when we stand, why we kneel when we kneel, and the congregational responses. Students will gain familiarity and understanding of the Mass. This was planned to be a 2 week unit, with field trips and holidays this may go into the next week. All work will be done in class, so homework is only necessary if a student needs extra practice at home or if their assignment was not completed during class. All students are expected to come to class prepared with their Social Studies binder, charged Chromebook, and something to write with.
